Chamomile- Matricaria Chamomilla (German Chamomile) and Chamaemelum Nobile (Roman Chamomile)

Chamomile is a mild sedative, antispasmodic and digestive tonic known for its safe and effective applications. It's beneficial for indigestion, gas, vomiting and digestive upset caused by nervousness. The complex chemistry of Chamomile contributes to It's holistic healing properties with compounds like apegenin and chamazulene acting as strong antispasmodic agents.

In the digestive tract, Chamomile eases spasms, expels gas, promotes bile production for digestion and reduces inflammation. This makes it an excellent remedy for chronic or acute gastric disorders including inflammatory bowel disease.

For skin inflammations and eye issues, a cooled water infusion of Chamomile flowers serves as a soothing, healing and antimicrobial rinse. The infusion can also be diluted for use as an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial eyewash.

Chamomile's tonic effect extends to smooth-muscle tissue in the heart, bladder and uterus. While beneficial as a uterine tonic before and during late-term pregnancy, it's generally avoided during early pregnancy.

Chamomile acts as a general-purpose calming her, suitable for animals facing spasmodic or anxiety related issues. It's pleasant taste, water solubility and safety make it a preferred option before stronger antispasmodic or sedatives.

Often overlooked for expelling worms, Chamomile is relatively nontoxic compared to other herbal wormers. While not as quick-acting, it effectively addresses roundworms and whipworms while offering anti-inflammatory benefits for intestinal mucosa.

Chamomile is generally safe but some animals can be highly allergic.  Prior to use check for sensitivity by applying a small amount to the skin. If no reactions occur, feed a drop or two and monitor your animal for any changes. Studies indicate that excessive Chamomile use during pregnancy may impact fetus growth and increase reabsorbtion in some animals. Exercise caution in such cases.

Add 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of leaves to a cup of hot water and allow to infuse for 2-3 minutes before straining and serving. Ensure the tea has cooled adequately before presenting it to your dog.
